training
program
for
state
and
local
law
enforcement
agencies,
other
governmental
agencies,
and
businesses
that
deal
with
real
life
issues
on
a
daily
basis.
INTRODUCTION
TO
IMMIGRATION
LAW,
POLICY,
AND
PRACTICE
TRAINING
OBJECTIVE:
To
provide
state
and
local
law
enforcement,
governmental
agencies,
and
businesses
with
a
basic
understanding
of
immigration
law,
policy,
and
practice
that
will
help
improve
performance
of
official
duties
and
responsibilities
in
a
matter
that
observes
laws
and
regulations
while
respecting
the
rights
of
non-citizens.
AUDIENCE:
Immigration
is
now
affecting
every
community
in
the
United
States
-
from
law
enforcement
officers
encountering
foreign
nationals
during
routine
traffic
stops,
to
municipal
workers
determining
eligibility
for
benefits,
to
corporate
human
resource
departments
attempting
to
understand
and
comply
with
hiring
requirements.
It
is
imperative
for
civil
authorities
and
businesses
to
understand
how
to
navigate
the
complexity
of
immigration
law
and
the
myriad
of
immigration
classifications.
This
training
is
tailored
to
the
specific
needs
of
an
agency
or
business,
featuring
instructors
who
have
served
as
immigration
officers
and
are
experienced
in
working
with
both
public
and
private
sectors.
This

structured
course
will
provide
the
knowledge
and
tools
to
operate
effectively
and
correctly
in

complicated
area

COURSE
CONTENT
-
WHAT
IS
COVERED
For
Law
Enforcement
-
This
four-hour
course
covers
all
the
basics
of
immigration:
obtaining
U.S.
citizenship,
legal
immigration,
immigrant
classifications,
non-immigrants
(such
as
visitors,
guest
workers
and
students),
illegal
aliens,
detention
and
removal,
criminal
vs.
administrative
violations,
refugees,
political
asylum,
etc.
Our
training
explains
the
documentary
requirements
for
various
classes
of
aliens
and
how
to
detect
fraudulent
immigration
documents.
Terrorist
tactics,
alien
smuggling,
human
trafficking,
naming
protocols,
and
more
are
covered
and
explained.
Immigration
enforcement
as
a
tool
for
law
enforcement
is
also
explored.
Suggestions
are
given
on
how
to
work
with
alien
victims
and
witnesses.
Also
covered
are
issues
of
cultural
awareness,
alien
rights,
consular
warnings,
and
the
use
of
interpreters.
Local
areas
of
concern
are
discussed
during
a
question-answer
session.
This
course
is
designed
for
law
enforcement
officers;
however,
it
can
be
modified
for
other
regulatory
agencies
such
as
motor
vehicle
or
public
transit
authorities
etc.
This
is
an
excellent
pre-requisite
course
for
any
law
enforcement
agency
that
is
contemplating
participating
in
the
Immigration
and
Customs
Enforcement
(ICE)
Section
287(g)
delegation
of
immigration
authority
program.
For
Government
Agencies
-
This
four-hour
course
covers
the
basic
understanding
of
immigration
law,
classifications
of
immigration
status,
and
identity
documentation
that
will
allow
examiners
to
better
determine
eligibility
for
federal
and/or
state
and
local
benefits,
contracts,
grants
or
other
programs.
The
course
will
discuss
the
SAVE
(Systematic
Alien
Verification
for
Entitlement)
program
and
how
to
collect
data
from
applicants
and
check
against
existing
government
databases.
The
course
will
cover
document
training
and
provide
a
basic
understanding
of
documentary
requirements
and
examples,
including
instruction
on
recognizing
fraudulent
documents.
It
will
also
provide
assistance
in
successfully
working
with
diverse
populations.
The
curriculum
will
be
customized
to
incorporate
unique
state
or
local
laws
and
regulations.
For
Businesses
-
This
four-hour
course
will
review
the
Form
I-9
immigration
status
verification
requirements
for
employers.
The
course
will
explain
the
various
immigration
classifications,
how
to
determine
eligibility
for
continued
employment,
and
how
to
insure
compliance
with
federal
and/or
state
requirements.
The
course
will
review
the
types
of
documents
that
are
acceptable
to
establish
identity
and
work
eligibility
in
the
United
States
and
show
examples
of
each.
The
instruction
will
review
the
most
common
types
of
fraud
encountered
by
businesses
and
strategies
to
protect
your
company
from
government
and
civil
penalties.
The
course
will
discuss
the
federal
electronic
status
verification
program
(Basic
Pilot)
and
how
to
participate.
